Event Description

Join author Stephen McGrath to learn about Jimmy Sharman and his boxing troupe, who toured Australia during World War I. Based on extensive research of real people and real events, this story tells how Jimmy Sharman managed to continue to tour throughout the war. Sharman created an unbeatable boxing troupe of white, Chinese and Indigenous boxers, training them to be the most famous of all the Australian Travelling Boxing Troupes.

Stephen McGrath has won The Age Short Story Award, as well as several other national story awards. His book 'Jimmy Sharman's Boxers' was inspired by a photograph found in Jimmy Sharman's personal collection, and is the culmination of 15 years of research and writing.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase after the event.
