What is emotional honesty in literature and how can writers hone it? Lee Kofman, the author of many books, has grappled with these questions her entire writing life, which began in a Siberian village where aged 3 she recited her first poem to a crowd of illiterate babushkas. What followed was decades of wrestling with the art of writing and of incessant reading. Lee will discuss the challenges of writing as an outsider as well as suffering a writer's block and how she overcomes these by committing to an emotionally honest writing practice and by reading books that ring with authenticity.
