Cooling our Patch – The Gardener's Role in Urban Greening & Cooling

Event Description

Join Sustainable Gardening Australia as they discuss the importance of urban greening and how trees, shrubs, grasses and flowers create an urban forest in our built environments and bring benefits for both climate change mitigation and climate adaption.

Explaining the urban heat island effect and identifying ways this can be reduced, we will discuss what we all need to do to make our urban communities more resilient in a warming climate. We saw how people gravitated towards green spaces during the COVID19 lockdowns, but imagine living, working and playing in green spaces all the time as we go about our daily lives. That’s what an Urban Forest is. We all have a role to play in creating it and this session will explain how.

Notes & Requirements

Please park in designated bays on Dorrigo Drive or Melrose Court. If bays are full, please use available spaces on Dorrigo Drive, ensuring that you park away from intersections and residents' driveways.
