Meet local Author Barbara McCarthy

‘Not merely a journey but more of a quest in learning not just about writing and publishing but also about myself’ is how Barbara describes her experience as an author. She was once a nurse and midwife and then in retirement filled her life with volunteering in the community… until lock-down hit and she found herself living alone in a place where she had no friends or connections. She started to draft the story of her life as a slave to an escalating depression and when her manuscript was nearly ready to publish, she found the courage to share it. In her late seventies she joined a creative writing class, and her writing took on a life of its own. She has since written and published three books in addition to her memoir and travel tales and a book of short stories.

Join Barbara as she talks about her two latest fictional biographies with medical and nursing themes 'Go Gently, Sandpiper John Barick's story' and 'Never Just Anybody Alice's Story'. Barbara will also talk about her third published book 'Waiting for Sunshine…One Day at a Time', she published this year as a ghost-writer for Dave, a man of eighty-five who has never been able to read or write which has been a whole other adventure!
