"The Tune of Rubab" introduces the Rubab, a Khurasani instrument originating approximately two centuries ago in the regions of Herat and Kandahar, now part of Afghanistan. Renowned for its captivating sound, the Rubab has drawn the interest of musicians worldwide, including those from India, the Middle East, Japan, Europe, America, and Australia. In this program, Hussain Shirzad, also known as Rubab Nawaz, residing in Melbourne, showcases pieces from the musical heritage of Khurasan, crafted by the people of Afghanistan over the past 150 years. These compositions, influenced by romantic events or serving as reminders of tragic incidents, convey emotional memories and valuable lessons. Trained in Rubab artistry in Kabul and traditional music principles in India, Master Hussain Shirzad both crafts and plays the Rubab. Through his performance in this program, audiences gain insight into the Rubab instrument and experience the soulful melodies of Khurasani music from Afghanistan.
