Event Description

20 year old Lance-Corporal William Scurry was an Australian soldier who, invented the self firing “drip rifle” whilst serving in the Gallipoli campaign during the First World War. This invention would convince Turkish soldiers that the Anzacs were still in the trenches shooting at them, when in fact they had long gone!
Bill Scurry became a member of our local community and is buried at Lilydale Cemetery. Hear this amazing story of survival with the author of “Scurry,” Anthony McAleer.
