Come along to Ferntree Gully Library where Maria Fey from Tuscan Design will introduce you to the world of Wabi Sabi.

Wabi Sabi is an ENIGMA… A Japanese term referring to accepting the BEAUTY OF IMPERFECTION…

Often explained as a philosophy, in which the characteristics are “imperfect, impermanent and incomplete” – the opposite of “flawless, rigid symmetry, polished, buying new, complete & perfect”!

Nothing in this world is permanent – everything, including us, will age – yet there is a reverent beauty of seeing with your heart: the scuffed, the rusted, the torn and weathered belongings, beauty whilst developing the patina of the passing of time. The withered hand of an aged person contrasting with the smooth and unlined hand of youth…

WABI – is NOT a style, a fashion, or a design trend – WABI values the transience of everything in this world.

The WABI ideal is tranquil calm and minimalist (also found in the philosophy of Shaker living principles).

SABI - the delightful contemplation of what is old and worn. It also refers to the beauty of faded or withered things. Sabi could also mean “old and elegant”, or “being rusty”, with an untranslatable impression of peacefulness.
